The Pearl in Doha

We’ve been watching the creation of a whole new living area in Doha, the Pearl. Like the palm tree in Bahrain, and similar creations in the UAE, the islands are being created with materials from destroyed buildings, and landfill.

In Qatar, it will be one of two areas where non-Qatteris can buy property, the other being the West Bay Lagoon, near where The Pearl is also being created by the Al Fardan Group.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, but it’s taken through the airplane window. Aargh. It’s interesting seeing where the channels are being dredged for the private boat docks.

  1. I sooo want to buy an apartment in that beautiful location! There’s very few left.

  2. Q8ari – Is that true? It seems to be that the part in the photo is only a very small portion of the grand scheme – and that there will be high rises with condos as well as private villas – and they are almost all sold? Holy Smokes!

  4. nice picture … everyone is copying Dubai … and they are all killing the marine world …

i like the way Qatar is heading … they did new and different things such as Al Jazeera, Sports City, and now the Theme park

  5. My cousin is in Qatar, and she was telling us how everything Dubai does Qatar goes and copies it. They’re like kids competing.
I’m surprised there’s nothing like that in Kuwait yet.

  6. SKNK – There’s a lot of building going on in Doha. Beautiful condos, villas . . . you’ll find something, if you decide to invest in Doha.

Deera Chat Family – your podcast totally cracks me up, even though I can’t understand half of what you are saying.

Elijah – for some reason, all of a sudden I keep having to pull you out of spam, I don’t know why. Yeh, at first I thought it was just copying, but let’s face it, it multiplies gulf-front/view properties, gives people with no chance of buying property in Qatar a chance to own property,

I think it’s more than copying. I think there is someone with vision who is gambling that these places will sell – and it seems he is proving to be right.

Kuwait has gorgeous potential, but is hamstrung with bureaucratic / wasta requirements. How can you make a deal/contract when you are not sure the contract will stick? It’s risky . . . meanwhile, it seems to me people are building some gorgeous places here, too.

  7. Three tower plots in three districts of the island have sold out, so hurry!
Sale of villas is expected to be launched in March! But I want an apt! 😀
Oh and those pearls in the photo.. THEY ARE PRIVATE ISLANDS FOR SALE!!

  8. Private islands with their own boat slips, if you look at the dredging. . . I suspect the houses will be gorgeous.

  10. Hey Fonz. I think these projects are daring. They take vision and financing. I think there is the capability in Kuwait, and it will be interesting to see if anything like that is in the works. Do you follow Skyscraper City?

  13. Ahmad – the website is The Pearl Qatar

  14. Anyone foolish enough to buy a property there can look forward to a non-stop stream of builders’ lorries trundling through the place, pile-drivers banging away, and other shoddy construction works 24/7 for the next decade. There’s only one road in and out – it’s going to be hell.

  15. I’ve heard others whisper what you are saying, but others say the Pearl sites are sold out and prices going nowhere but up. There is a real rental crisis in Qatar, not enough high end housing for all the corporate expats flocking in to be a part of the Qatar miracle.

  16. I am looking to do a round up of expatriates who live in Qatar. Anyone moved there in recent years and have some insights in to share? Thanks Pamela
