Safari / WordPress Upload Image Hint

After several mornings of agony trying to upload my sunrise photo, only to be successful later in the day, I went to the FAQ section, where one little line gave me a clue for something else to try. It’s something about when you sign on, you might get one link or you might get another.

When uploading an image, if I see that they are using “Flash” I know it is going to work. If it says it is using “browser,” it is never going to work.

As cumbersome as it may be, what works for me is to sign out, and sign in again, hoping this next link will enable the “Flash” upload.

Bonus morning photo, just because I can:

  1. I didn’t know that big boat moves at all 😀
I only see it at the same spot all the time (just in case it’s the same one – dunno)

    Gorgeous shot!

  2. Lucky shot, Nicole, but I have my camera near at all times. The sea is as smooth as glass this morning, and I really wanted to capture some glitter. I’m still working on it. 🙂

  3. Grin, I hope I get some sunrises next week – but they sure are sort of boring without some clouds after a while 😉

Btw. check out this search term in google:
    “daily picture” weather kuwait

    😀

  4. I thought there was a button or link that lets you switch between flash or browser :/

  5. Maybe on yours, 3baid. Sometimes when I am writing and try to insert an image, nothing happens. It is only when I am using “browser”. I have to sign out, sign in again and hope that this time I have a link that uses “flash”.

Or maybe it’s voodoo. 😉 I am not very tech savvy; I just muddle along.

  7. I always use flash coz its nicer but if you find a browser instead, you can always click on flash.. its right there as an option in the same popup box. it should be there.

  8. yes just like what 3baid said, it lets you choose and switch. which browser are you using? firefox or safari?

  9. 3baid, Yousef, when mine says “browser” there is no option to click for Flash. When it says Flash, there IS an option to choose browser.

Now, no matter what size I tell it the photo should be, they are always medium sized. It’s just weird. I am using Safari.

  10. Thats weird coz it always show me “You are using the Browser uploader. Try the Flash uploader instead.” when i’m on browser mode.

Anyway, regarding the size, you know what I do? I always open the picture in preview program before uploading it and go to tools–>Adjust size and adjust the width to 400 or 450 pixel (it auto resize the height if you checked ‘scale proportionally’). that way I don’t have to upload big pictures and make it easier for viewers to view the pictures without needing to wait for an otherwise bigger picture.

  11. Yousef, I think we might be using different versions or something. When I get the upload window with “brower”, there is NO other choice. The only time I have a choice is when I am using “flash”

Tools? I don’t think I have tools. Now I have to go look. 😉

  12. Report it to wordpress! you should be able to see both options even when you’re on browser mode.

this is what I see http://somecontrast.files.wordpress.com/2008/04/flash-uploader.jpg

  13. Make sure you have the latest version of Safari (3.1.1).

To check which version you’re using, click Safari > About Safari from the menu bar.

To update, click the Apple > Software Update from the menu bar.

If you still have problems, you can use Firefox.

  14. Thanks to all your suggestions, I tried something else. I tried all your suggestions first – for some reason, they don’t work for me, and it may be my version of WP.

I CAN get the photos bigger. The only way I can do it is even though I choose “Full”, that isn’t as big as I want them to be. I have to upload in HTML and manually go in and change the measurements of the default photo. Crazy, huh?

  15. Yousef, I think I will report to WP, although I haven’t had the problem with the browser/flash for a couple of days now. Now, I routinely get Flash, with an option of choosing Browser. Before, when I had Browser, I had no Flash option, had to sign out and sign back in again until I found one that had Flash.

I DO have Safari 3.1.1. My system updates itself all the time, doesn’t yours? I thought it was semi-automatic.

Firefox?? Gasps and grabs at throat! I am a simple tool user!
