Photo tools

Technical issue – Yousef – this is what I see in my “gallery” when I select a photo. Is this what you see? Where are the tools? How do you resize from here?

  1. Correct me if i’m wrong yoo!, but i believe you just, “insert into post” with either “thumbnail medium or fullsize”, and ONCE its inserted, you get to drag the corners for further resizing.

I DO NOT believe (but i could be wrong) that wordpress will actually resize the ACTUAL image file, as opposed to the html rendering it.

On an unrelated topics!, instead of having boring images, you should get them all animated and MEMEified at

    🙂 hope, this helped.

  2. I’m sorry, I reread my comment and I think I wasn’t clear 😀 The resize option i was talking about, intlxpatr, isn’t on wordpress 🙂 its included in your mac, a program called preview (you can find it on your dock or the Applications folder), I use it to resize pictures BEFORE uploading them. By doing that I use less space, less upload time, less time for the viewers to download the images and view them on your website.

But, if you don’t want to use PREVIEW, you can do what mozey said, use visual when you’re posting and drag the corners to resize, but I wouldn’t recommend it coz I don’t think its accurate, and I like the images to be of the same size whenever its possible.

I’m sorry if I was a bit vague with my previous comment.

  3. You can resize thumbnails in Settings > Media.

  4. While I shoot most of my photographs in RAW format, and do any serious manipulation in PS Elements (I couldn’t afford the big box), I’ve found a great little program called Irfanview that I use to resize, sharpen and make minor edits on all photos I post to my blog. It’s a free download, and I love it! It takes all the work out of making sure my photos are uniform in appearance, with the clarity that a significant size reduction will usually steal away. You might give it a try!

  5. Mozey, it may work differently in different versions of WordPress. I tried what you said – in both Visual mode and HTML – and my photos don’t resize; there is no mechanism for resize once the photo is inserted. I am inserting as FULL size, but the photos are small compared to what they used to be at the same image size.

Yousef, I do most of my sizing in iPhoto, but it when I try to send a much larger photo than I am sending, I am told that they cannot accept the image. Strange.

3baid *running to go check that out* Hunh. I haven’t been there for a while and I think there have been some changes. I changed the thumbnail size, let’s see what happens.

My husband also bought PSE, Lofter, and hadn’t done anything with it. I think he will have a lot of fun with it once he gets started, but even Elements is a little overwhelming to the time-challenged. 🙂 I will have to take a look at Irfanview, although really, iPhoto does most of what I need to do, which is very little. Cropping, occasional sharpening . . .

  6. IrfanView is Windows only if I recall correctly :/

  7. You are right, 3baid, and iPhoto does all the things on a Mac that Irfanview does on other machines.

Finally I got some answers – duh. I went to FAQ on QP and clicked on Images. They have pictures that show you what to do. I don’t like working in the Visual mode; something doesn’t work in the paragraphs and it drives me crazy, but I see now how you can resize by dragging.
