Kuwait Celebrates Women with Massive FlyBy

Be still my little heart! This morning, I was, by the grace of God, in the right place at the right time. Did not have the right camera, but I did have a camera as Kuwait honored International Women’s Day with a massive fly-by. At one point, twenty jet planes roared over the Gulf in a humungous group. I’ve seen a lot of air shows, but I cannot remember ever having seen twenty jets flyby in one movement.

WOOO HOOO Kuwait! You really know how to honor women!

They even had three cargo planes fly over the Gulf as a unit . . .

Wooo HOOOO! My heart is still fluttering! Adrenelin high! I am guessing the cost of aviation fuel is so much less in Kuwait that the Air Force can go out and have a little fun occasionally. You made my day.

(It MIGHT not have been in honor of International Women’s Day. If anyone knows why this enormous display took place, please sign in now!)

  4. Are we sure these formations really were for women’s day? My heart skipped a beat reading you. For a while it took me back to the morning of Aug 2, 1990. I have family living in Kwt and I am a bit concerned.

  5. So . . . um . . . it’s a symbolic celebration, Purg?

Jam3ilya(L) – LLOOLL, We each see through our own filter, don’t we? Guess we know what Purg’s filter looks like. (EEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!)

FourMe – Well, I love a good air show. How do you know? I haven’t seen a word anywhere! Is there some special occasion on Wednesday? I can’t imagine it is for the Prophet’s birthday on Thursday, I mean that doesn’t seem like a religious thing . .

Speak Escada – It was a little bit of a spoof.

Whoever it was was playing, practicing – they were having a lot of fun. There was no threat in anything they were doing, just young pilots out there having a ball.

  6. What women day ??? This air show is for the military show on wed .. Don’t u ppl read the papers ??

  7. No its an annual kinda thing where the army shows off their planes and amount of machines and personal they’ve got to the high officials in the government.. Quite sure that’s the main point of it but don’t take my word for it..

If they don’t cancel it for some reason or the other watch it on tv on wed morning its quite interesting and a lot of effort has been put into it on the behalf of the boys flying and doing all the manoeuvres..

  8. KU – Don’t you read the newspaper? Listen to news radio? Yesterday was International Women’s Day!

If there is an airshow on Wednesday, it has not shown up in the English papers, which yes, I do read.

Thank you, FourMe. I saw some really cool boats being towed somewhere, like military boats, so I am guessing it is something like Armed Forces Day? I love those things. Thanks for the heads-up.

  12. If he flys by close enough, I’ll take his picture while I am waving, Bu Yousef! 🙂

KU – LOL – yeh, right. Did you notice the little word “satire” in the tags? Mighta meant I was putting you on a little.

    Thanks, Abdulrahman.

  13. I think there’s some sort of military experimentation/maneuver recently. I saw a swarm of helicopters the other day. Around 9 black attack helicopters (not Apaches, they looked wider) and 3 big fat camo choppers. Thrilling! 😀

  14. Where is this big military exhibition going to be, do you know, Mac? It really looks like a pretty amazing day! Thrilling is right! 🙂

  15. As I understand from the people making preparations at the Arab Fund Headquarters, Prince Hassan of Jordan was here and the display was in his honor. The Fahaheel Expressway was completely closed down for his “little” entourage. I didn’t see it but HandyMan did. The dinner was yesterday night. Hoo ha

  16. “is” in his honor? I don’t know how long he’s staying and if there’s an actual airshow on Wednesday, he’s likely to still be here (Prince Hassan is an airplane freak)

  17. Maybe this is Jordanian Air Force? I don’t often see them out practicing in this kind of force. Magnificent!

  18. This is an annual event done by the various branches of the Kuwaiti military. It is a show of force (“formation”) of military capabilities for the Emir’s viewing. I wish that it was publicized so that us normal folk could see it. Pretty cool.

  19. Way cool, Desert Girl, and thanks. At nine ayem, I was looking in the skys, only to watch that huge old dusty/rain cloud move in. I am guessing the celebration of military force was cancelled or postponed.

I am still glad I got my thrill on International Women’s Day! 😉
