Qatteri Cat – ReVisit

So all the way home, I am thinking “I have to be fair.”

It’s one thing to write a post when you are all hurt or annoyed by something, and then another to have to go back and give an update which is more . . . ummm. . .. . balanced.

The Qatteri Cat went back to the vet today for a re-check. He is fine. He didn’t want to go, and told me so all the way there.

The “mean” animal handler was there when I came in. She asked who was coming, and I told her, and she came over and called him a “sweetie,” and was genuinely nice to him, and caring.

When it came time to visit the vet, the QC stepped out of his cage all by himself, and behaved himself like a perfect gentleman. . . err, gentlecat.

I can tell you it is a lot harder to write a post about nothing happening and everyone being nice, than it is to write an emotional post. All the way home, I had to think about what I was going to write, and what came to me was that while I was making excuses for the Qatteri Cat being foul tempered (hungry, hurting, scared) I wasn’t making any allowances for the humans, who have to deal with sick, hungry, hurting, scared animals every day, who have to watch them suffer, and die, and who might be hungry, or tired, or in physical or emotional pain themselves. So . . . for all my own crabbiness, I apologize.

Today was a new day. QC is a well cat, and AdventureMan and I are still waiting for the magic phone call.

  2. I appreciate your post on behalf of my brother, who just graduated veterinary school. He was often on call for 24 hours at a time, nowhere near a source of food or a place to sleep, simply because he chose to do without those things in order to care for sick animals. He has the heart for it (unlike me because I’d just die every day), and he has seen some neglected, abused animals through very nasty times. I imagine that everything veterinarians witness builds up over time, and they can’t help but have bad days (or weeks), especially in a country that shows little institutionalized care for animals. You are kind in taking a moment to think of their perspective, and I’m glad QC was on his best behavior πŸ™‚

  3. Your brother – and most veterinarians – have my full support, AcadeMama. The vets at this clinic are knowledgeable and professional. You are right, they deal with unimaginable horror. Often, people wait too long before taking their animals in, and then they abuse the vet when the animal doesn’t recover, even after the vet has made massive, valiant efforts.

QC was in love with his last vet, a bubbly, gorgeous Italian in Kuwait. He couldn’t wait to get out of his cage. She told him he was HANDSOME, and QC melted into a puddle of joy. πŸ™‚

I just needed to balance out my rant from my last visit.

  5. Isn’t that one of the things we first learn in our walk with Christ, Polar Panda, that when we want change, we need to pray “Lord, Change ME?” Do you think maybe my attitude may have caused a bit of the problem? 😦

    • πŸ™‚ I found I often say,” Well I really need to learn how to forgive myself!” πŸ™‚ Then I’ll try to change myself, but it happened again. Has HE said to forgive 77 times? Well that applies to me too. LOL.
It is hard to see our loved ones (well, I do not have a cat yet) not being treated with fairness. Well I have a fish, an evil one. I like him to have a clean tank and fed regularly. Sometimes I do hold him/her to watch TV as a treat….
