Early Morning Souk Al Waqif
One set of packers coming mid-morning, so AdventureMan is staying home, and offers to take me out to breakfast. I’m a cheap date – take me to the Beirut. I love this place.
As we get to the camel lot, we see they are being fed and dressed – a parade?
These guys look sharp. They have a lot of pride in what they are doing. And they have a dashing uniform. He told us they are a part of the Emiri Diwan.
On to the Beirut, and one of my reasons for loving these breakfasts – the souk cops, on their horses. The horses are beautiful, and well controlled. The cops are friendly and patient with all the tourists, and with us ‘locals’ too, when we ask them to pose with our Flat Stanleys. π
It’s a real treat for AdventureMan to have a morning when he can sit outside with me and enjoy his favorite kind of breakfast:
We walked through the souks, and found that by 9:30, it is beginning to get HOT.

Hey, that would be nice for both of you. Both my ExploreMan and I would love to sit in this environment and enjoy the breakfast without the interruption of our boys. I like the cops, and that reminds me the RCMP (Rocky Canadian Mounted Police) who rides on horsed in downtown Calgary. They ride bike instead now. π¦
They give onions for breakfast? ExploreMan said it was 35 C degree yesterday in Kuwait, but the evening is beautiful, nice and comfortable.
How come your bowl is bigger than his? π

LOL, Panda, I noticed that, too, that my bowl is bigger. It’s just the way it comes, I ordered fattah, AdventureMan ordered ‘fool’ or beans. Yes, raw onions are common with breakfast. And yes, the mounted policemen remind me of the RCMP too! Presents a great image for law and order, doesn’t it? π They also ride a sort of standing tricycle, like a Segway.
Aafke, these guys really know how to ride. They ride like cowboys, firm in the saddle, a little slouched. They look like they’ve been riding all their lives. I imagine they only choose the best riders to go among all the tourists and businesspeople dining along the street, those with guaranteed control over the horses. Yes, you must come see for yourself. π After your visit to the USA, of course. π
I like seeing policeman on horses, I just don’t know how fast they can maneuver and get to a situation if it gets problematic and you need a cop real quick.

1001nights;, mounted police can be very quick! And usually the horses are the best trained you will ever see.
I once saw how a mounted police men used his horse to gently shove a couple of noisy men to the side of the street!
LLOOLLL, I am not sure these are really mounted police, they may be mounted local color, 1001 π They are easy on the eyes. π I keep waiting for you to miss me enough to come visit! Now it will have to be Pensacola!
Aafke, watch out America, Aafke is present! I agree, I think TRAINED mounted police are effective; I am not sure these are really police guys. The police have different uniforms. π
